Following the completion of Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan, Karthi, one of the most-wanted heroes in Tamil cinema, teamed up with director Muthaiah for the second time after their 2015 blockbuster film 'Komban'. The duo's new project is a mass rural entertainer titled 'Viruman'. The story is said to be built around a father-son relationship.

Produced by Suriya-Jyothika under the banner 2D Entertainment, 'Viruman' marks the acting debut of ace director Shankar's daughter Aditi Shankar. The movie is shot in and around Madurai and Theni districts. Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring music for the film, which also stars Rajkiran, Soori, Prakash Raj and others. The family entertainer is in post-production and is planned for a summer release.
