Last week, the Indian Cricket Team's skipper Virat Kohli has announced that he will step down from the captaincy in T20 format after the T20 World Cup tournament. While the fans are still struggling to process the news, Virat has made another unexpected announcement yesterday.
It is well-known fact that Virat Kohli captains the famous IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore too. On September 20, the RCB team took to Twitter to share a video saying that Kohli will resign from the captaincy in the franchise after the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
In the video posted by RCB, the 32-year-old player says, "This will be my last IPL as captain of RCB. I’ll continue to be an RCB player till I play my last IPL game. I thank all the RCB fans for believing in me and supporting me. It was something that was on my mind as I recently announced stepping down as T20 captain to manage my workload which has been immense. I want to be clear about how I want to move forward."
VK further adds, "I have made it clear to the management that I can’t think of being in any other team apart from RCB. It has been a great and inspiring journey, captaining a talented bunch of players in the RCB squad. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RCB management, coaches, support staff, players, and the entire RCB family, who have been instrumental in the growth of the franchise over the years."
The run machine concluded by saying, "It wasn’t an easy decision but one that has been well thought of and in the best interest of this wonderful franchise." Kohli has been one of the mainstays for RCB. He became the franchise’s captain in 2013 but so far. Kohli has played 199 IPL matches and scored 6076 runs so far with five centuries. RCB is scheduled to take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their first match in the UAE today.
