Indian skipper Virat Kohli got into a verbal altercation with England all-rounder Ben Stokes on the first day of the fourth and final Test between the two countries in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi stadium.
The incident happened right after Ben Stokes came into bat following the dismissal of captain Joe Root. Mohammed Siraj bowled out a bouncer to finish the 13th over when Stokes began arguing with the former. Virat Kohli stepped in not much later and a heated exchange between the duo ensued. After a certain point during the debate, umpire Virender Sharma had to intervene to bring things under control. The exact reason behind the altercation is unclear. A video of the same surfaced online. England lost three wickets before lunch break, including that of captain Joe Root, who was dismissed by Mohammad Siraj. The wickets of the other two batsmen, Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley, were taken by Axar Patel.
Speaking about replacing Jasprit Bumrah with Mohammad Siraj, Virat Kohli had earlier mentioned, "We have to be at our best, and England are a quality side, who have and can put us under pressure. We have to be at the top of our game. Mohammad Siraj comes in in place of Jasprit Bumrah." England won the toss and chose to bat first.
