Virat Kohli, after missing the ongoing Test series against England for personal reasons, shared the joyful news on Instagram that his wife Anushka Sharma has given birth to their second child. Their son, named Akaay, was born on February 15.
Kohli, who had been in Hyderabad ahead of the first Test against England, left to be with his family and subsequently made himself unavailable for the entire series. Initially, he had planned to miss only the first two games. India, leading the five-match series 2-1, had announced their squad for the final three Tests just over a week ago.
During the birth of their first child, Kohli had opted out of the last three Tests of the Australia tour in 2020-21. As India's captain at the time, Ajinkya Rahane had stepped in for those matches.
The couple announced the arrival of their new addition through a heartfelt post on Instagram. Celebrities flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages as soon as the news broke.
Ranveer Singh expressed his joy with multiple heart emojis, while Alia Bhatt commented, "How beautiful, congratulations." Other celebrities like Shibani Akhtar, Sonam Kapoor, and Maniesh Paul also extended their wishes to the couple.
In their social media announcement, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma wrote, "With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika's little brother into this world! We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives. We request you to kindly respect our privacy at this time. Love & Gratitude. Virat & Anushka."
The couple already has a three-year-old daughter named Vamika. Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli tied the knot in 2017 in a private ceremony in Italy after dating for several years. They welcomed their daughter Vamika on January 11, 2021.
