Former India Cricket Captain Virat Kohli and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma welcomed their second child, a baby boy they named Akaay, on February 20. The good news in the air finally lifted the cloud over Kohli's recent disappearance from the cricket field due to his unavailability thanks to paternity leave during the England series.
Kohli and Sharma are both private people, and they had not announced the pregnancy until they announced the birth. Their heartfelt, but short social media post addressing the birth on the 15th asked for privacy during this special time. That confirms the "personal reason" behind his stepping away from the ongoing test series.
Rumors about Kohli's choice had also made the rounds in advance, and sources close to him had alluded to the fact that he was expecting a second child soon. The nod from former teammate AB de Villiers seemed to be adding to this rumor before he retracted his own words, sparking further confusion. However, the BCCI had announced earlier that the cricketer would be missing out on the entire series.
This is second to the birth of their baby daughter, Vamika, in January 2021. Unlike the pregnancy of Vamika, which was announced in advance, this arrival has until now remained a well-guarded secret.
Kohli's return to the field is still awaited, but for now, cricket buffs rejoice with the couple and send their heartfelt wishes to the growing family.
