The video of a Hindu temple being burnt by Muslim fanatics in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is going viral on social media. The temple was built in 1919 and was closed down in 1947 under the pressure of locals. As reported by Pakistani newspapers, a Supreme Court of Pakistan order five years ago allowed its reopening. Cut to the present day, a Maulvi has reportedly led its destruction.
Quoting Dawn, a Pakistan daily, a commentator informed that the temple was destroyed in 1997, too.
Several Indians have shared the visuals with concern. Hindus have been persecuted in Pakistan since the creation of the country in 1947. Journalist Smita Prakash remarked that Imran Khan gives lectures to India on religious freedom when he is a disaster. Agent Saffron tweeted that the video is a live demonstration of how Islamist invaders demolished Hindu temples in the past, including in Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura.
The act of vandalism also proves that the Citizenship Amendment Act brought out in 2019 was timely. "It's important for persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, etc. in Pakistan to be given Indian citizenship on an expeditious basis," a Twitter user wrote.
