WhatsApp has decided to restrict its message forwarding feature to curb fake news related to COVID-19. As reported by The Verge, "starting Tuesday, messages that have been identified as 'highly forwarded' can only be forwarded to a single person."
“We know many users forward helpful information, as well as funny videos, memes, and reflections or prayers they find meaningful. In recent weeks, people have also used WhatsApp to organize public moments of support for frontline health workers. However, we have seen a significant increase in the amount of forwarding which users have told us can feel overwhelming and can contribute to the spread of misinformation. We believe it’s important to slow the spread of these messages down to keep WhatsApp a place for personal conversation," WhatsApp today said.
In another news, WhatsApp has enabled a new feature for its users. They can now verify fake news on the web through its Search Message feature. "The search message on the web can be used on the latest versions of WhatsApp Web/Desktop. It is also enabled for Android and iOS updates," a report says.
