One civilian and more than 20 police have been injured during violent protests over the alleged fake encounter of a gangster in Rajasthan. A Superintendent of Police is among the many injured.

Anandpal Singh, a gangster from Rajasthan, was shot dead on June 24 despite his expressing his willingness to surrender to the police, according to the deceased's family. It was a plan hatched to eliminate him, the family added.

Thousands of people gathered in Sanvrad village to demand a probe into the issue by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The injured SP's vehicle was set on fire and railway tracks were damaged.

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure has been imposed and Internet services will not available in the district till the situation settles.

The gangster's family, backed by the Rajput community, demands only a CBI probe, despite the Rajasthan government offered to look into the matter.
