Vinnaithandi Varuvaya

Thursday, January 1, 1970 • தமிழ் Comments

After the soul-stirring `Varanam Aayiram', Goutham Menon is ready to rouse the audience once again with `Vinnaithandi Varuvaya'. Produced by Escape Artists Motion Pictures & R.S Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., `VTV' is one of the most anticipated films of the year and Goutham knows it. This will also be the romantic musical by Goutham after his first film `Minnale' in 2001.

`VTV' started making news right from its launch in February 2009. The first promotional stills which were made available to media looked as if the film is a tribute to all the cult romances on Tamil cinema. The stills looked a replica of the most romantic moment in films like Minsara Kanavu, Dil Se, Alaipayuthey, Kaakha Kaakha and Idhayathai Thirudathey. It caught the imagination at the out set.

`VTV' is the first film in Goutham-A R Rahman combination. So the expectations were high. The music was launched in London for the first time for a Tamil movie in December 2009. After its Indian launch in January 2010 the songs are already rising on the charts. The magic of Goutham-Harris may be missing but the new team has also delivered. This was evident when Goutham said the reason for launching the music in London. He said "though the film is in Tamil its music is truly international. That's why we chose London". Right words. `VTV' also has Malayalam lyrics in it, like Mani Ratnam's `Uyire'. One song is sung by the old time melody queens Kalyani Menon (Remember the song "Nee Varuvai Ena Naan Irunthen.." from the film Sujatha in the eighties?) Other singers include Benny Dayal, Kalyani Menon, Devan Ekambaram, Chinmayee, Karthik, Vijay Prakash, Blaze, Suzanne, Naresh Iyer, Shreya Ghoshal, Alphonse and of course A R Rahman. All the lyrics are written by poetic Thamarai. Only thing some may miss in `VTV' music is the absence of Bombay Jayashree.

`VTV' also has stakes riding for its leading actors Silambarasan and Trisha. The Little Superstar Silambarasan, after a series of action masala, is going for a change of role as a soft romantic hero. Trisha also has to prove herself with `VTV'. She hasn't had a hit in Tamil since `Unakkum Enakkum' in 2006. Even the much projected Kuruvi, Bheema, Abhiyum Naanum and Sarvam haven't helped her. With talks for the Kamal movie on Trisha has to make it this time.

The film being a Goutham Menon film is sure to satisfy you. Apart from its music the cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa is also said to be a highlight of the film. The film has gone to unexplored territories like Malta Islands for shooting the songs. Also a lot of green eye pleasing locations in and around Alapuzha in God' own country will make the songs special. The already chart topper `Hosanna' song is going to be another special dance number as it was choreographed by Flexy Stu the man who did the splendid "Adiye Kollathu.." in `Varanam Aayiram'. For the records Flexy Stu is Hrithik Roshan's favourite choreographer and that says even more. Hold your breath to see `Hosanna' on screen.

The story of `Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' is simple. Its about an aspiring film maker Karthik, played by Silambarasan, who wants to make it big in his profession. On his journey to success he falls in love with a Christian girl Jessie, played by Trisha. But as things move on he is forced to choose either his ambition or love and he's ready to sacrifice his dream for his love. Simple but Menon Magic will see it through.

`Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' is a bilingual with Naga Chaitanya in the lead. The Telugu version is called Jessie.

`Vinnaithandi Varuvaya' is a Valentine's Day gift to all the lovers.
