Director Gautham Vasudev Menon had directed the romantic entertainer Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya in 2010, and the movie which had Simbu and Trisha in lead roles turned out to be a blockbuster, and its Telugu version Ye Maya Chesave was also successful.

10 years later, now Gautham Vasudev Menon is set to direct a sequel to the movie, and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya 2 will also star Simbu and Trisha and will have music by AR Rahman, and as per latest reports, popular production house Vels Film International will bankroll this movie.

Vels Film International previously released Gautham Vasudev Menon's Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta and producers Joshua, and this movie will begin after Simbu completes shooting Maanaadu.
