A man from Chennai has been arrested after he was found guilty of abducting a class 10 student from Villivakkam.
The victim, identified as 14-year-old Sanjay, was on his way home after his evening tuition in the Rajaji Nagar extension when the incident happened. The parents of the teenager got concerned when he took longer than usual to return from his tuitions. When the father contacted the tuition center, the staff informed him that Sanjay had left the center at 6.30 pm. A while later, his parents lodged a missing person complaint at the Rajamangalam police station. During the investigation, a man reportedly told the police that he saw Sanjay near Puzhal, seeking help from auto drivers to reach the nearest police station, claiming that he had been kidnapped. Meanwhile, Sanjay was handed over to the Ambattur police by locals, who then took him home.
Sanjay informed the police that a man had kidnapped him and kept him at his house, planning to demand a hefty sum of money from his parents, but that he managed to escape. He apparently took a lift from strangers to reach Puzhal. The accused has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
