Few could predict the fiasco of leading Tamil director Vikraman's "Cheppave Chirugali" in Telugu. Convinced the film would do well in the box office, producer Venkata Shyam Prasad of the SP Entertainers had spent extravagantly on the film.

Vikaman had an impeccable track record in Telugu cinema. His Tamil hits had before this proved blockbusters when remade in Telugu. The string of successes started with "Nava Vasantham" and continued with "Suryavamsam" and "Subakanshalu" till "Raja".

Last year, he had tasted success with an original Telugu film "Vasantham" too.
