Kamal Haasan is not only Tamil cinema's pride but the most innovative actor and filmmaker in Indian cinema who is always ahead of his times. Way back in 1997 when few even thought about historical films the Ulaganayagan dreamt big and launched his 'Marudhanayagam' with the British Queen Elisabeth as the chief guest and Sivaji Ganesan and Rajinikanth among the guests list that included the who is who of South Indian cinema.
'Marudhanayagam' budgeted at 100 Crores at that time (Close to three hundred cores today after inflation) was shot for twenty days but had to be dropped due to budgetary constraints. Kamal has tried to revive the project many times but couldnt and now busy with his political career, has made it clear that the film will restart but without him heading the cast.
The buzz from unconfirmed sources in Kollywood is that Raj Kamal Films International has approached Chiyaan Vikram to play the title role of 'Marudhanayagam' replacing Kamal Haasan. It is said that during the making of 'Kadaram Kondan' produced by the banner talks began for this project and once the other formalities are completed the project could take off by the middle of 2021.
Vikram is currently shooting for 'Vikram 58' directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu and is will next move on to Mani Ratnam's historical multistarrer 'Ponniyin Selvan'. We will have wait and see how he will be able to allot dates for 'Marudhanayagam'.
