In 1981 Rajinikanth, Jaishankar, Sridevi and Sripriya starred in Thanikaatu Raja` directed by V.C. Guhanathan. Now after thirty four years a film with the same title is going to be made with Vikram Prabhu as the hero.

The new Thanikaatu Raja` is not a remake, but has a fresh story laced with humor and romance and is directed by Naveen Raghavan, who directed the sleeper hit Manja Pai` starring Vemal, Lakshmi Menon and Rajkiran. Illayaraja who scored music for the Rajini film is going to score for the Vikram Prabhu film too.
