The entire Tinsel town as well as millions of fans were going gaga over one of the top stars of Tamil film industry being invited for a meeting by Gujarat Chief Minister and the Prime Ministerial candidate of one of the prominent National parties Narendra Modi.
Vijay visited Coimbatore to meet Narendra Modi who was in Tamilnadu to campaign for his party candidates contesting in the Loksabha elections from Salem and Coimbatore constituencies. The meeting took place in private hotel in Coimbatore at around 7:20 pm. Vijay was reported to have reached the venue at 5:30 itself and he kept waiting for the political leader who arrived to the hotel after campaigning for his party candidate in Salem.
An official press release from VijayÂs PR PT Selvakumar has stated that Narendra ModiÂs immediate reaction after meeting Vijay was to hug and kiss the actor as a gesture of extending an affectionate welcome.

An overjoyed Vijay after meeting the top contender of the PM post, was quoted in the press release as saying, ÂI am very happy that ÂGuruji Narendra Modi took to meet an ordinary person like me. He wished to meet me when he visited Chennai last time (on Sunday, April 13) but I could not turned up since I was shooting in Hyderabad. It was conveyed to me that he wished to meet me when he comes to Coimbatore. So I met Mr.Narendra Modi in Coimbatore and it was a courtesy call. There is no political intention behind this meet. The most respectable leader of India expressing his willingness to meet me is my privilege. He spoke with me in a simple and affectionate tone. He spoke with me about my growth in this 21 year long Film career and many other things relating to that. I feel immensely proud that an important leader of the nation knows about me this much. We did not meet with any political intention. We did not speak anything related to politics.Â
So going by the statement of Vijay, yesterdayÂs meeting was purely apolitical like the meeting between Modi and VijayÂs senior Superstar Rajini that happened on Sunday in Chennai. However sources close to ModiÂs party claim that it was ModiÂs way of striking chord with the people of a state by meeting important stars in that state, while other political parties use less popular film stars for their campaigning.
