Vijayendra pleasantly surprised

Director Vijayendra Prasad has been pleasantly surprised to read the reviews of Rajanna. He never expected such a universal critical appreciation for his movie. Sharing his experiences on how he arrived at the idea of a little girl going all the way to Delhi to bring to the notice of Jawaharlal Nehru the oppression suffered by her fellow villagers, he said that a real life incident in Nizamabad, which was narrated by a villager when he was to the place, inspired him to pen the character of Mallamma.

Way back during the Razakar regime, a little girl went on foot to Delhi to meet Nehru. This was a few days after the village was debilitated by the Razakars and the villagers were clueless about the whereabouts of the girl for many days. To their shock, they received a letter from Delhi from the girl, informing that she was there to meet Nehru! Vijayendra, always a die-hard fan of heroic stories of kings (he is an aficionado of the stories of rajas and that’s why he named his son as Rajamouli), was immediately fascinated by the determination and grit of the girl.

He said that the attempt to make Rajanna, a serious, emotional drama was the result of the advice of his son to do films in the genres that he was best.

He has got many ideas. Vijayendra says that he will encourage native talent from now.
