Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held a press conference in Vijayawada yesterday, launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP government over their handling of the recent floods. He also leveled serious allegations against the Sakshi newspaper, owned by YS Jagan, for spreading misinformation and negativity during the crisis.
Naidu expressed his outrage at the conduct of the ruling party during the flood relief efforts. "I have never seen such antics from any political party in my entire career," he said, accusing the YSRCP of exploiting the disaster for political gain. He pointed fingers at the Sakshi newspaper, alleging that it published inflammatory content and actively spread negativity from the very beginning.
"Those who display such animosity towards the public are unfit to be in public life or political parties," Naidu declared, highlighting his disapproval of the YSRCP's actions.
The former Chief Minister further escalated the conflict by raising concerns over the recent damage to the Prakasam Barrage. "We need to investigate whether YSRCP members were involved in the damage to the barrage," he asserted, hinting at a possible conspiracy to destabilize the government. While stressing he wouldn't make accusations without evidence, he expressed deep suspicion over the incident.
Naidu described the damage, caused by powerful metal boats colliding with the barrage gates, as significant and suspicious. He questioned the origins and purpose of the boats, highlighting the mysterious circumstances surrounding the event.
The press conference also focused on the flood relief efforts. Naidu announced that a preliminary report on the floods, outlining the extent of damage and requesting â¹6,880 crore in aid, was sent to the central government today. He expressed confidence that the central government would review the report and expedite the release of funds.
In a positive note, Naidu highlighted the repair of three bunds in Budameru, crediting the efforts of Irrigation Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa and Human Resources Minister Nara Lokesh. He described the repair work as a significant step in rectifying historical errors and mitigating the impact of the floods.
The press conference concluded with Naidu's call for swift and decisive action from the YSRCP government to address the flood situation and provide relief to the affected population. He reiterated his accusations of political opportunism and demanded accountability from the ruling party for their actions during the crisis.
