Vijayawada: Fire accident at Covid-19 care centre kills 9

In a shocking incident, a major fire broke out at a Coronavirus care centre in Vijayawada on Sunday. So far, 9 deaths have been reported. The tragedy took place at Hotel Swarna Palace, which has served as a makeshift care centre for several weeks now.
At least 30 were present inside the centre at the time of the accident. It has been run under the aegis of a private hospital. Immediate rescue and fire-fighting operations have successfully brought the situation under control.
Following the tragedy, Jagan announced Rs 50 lakh to the kin of the deceased. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly spoke to Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy over the phone and assured him of all assistance. "Anguished by the fire at a Covid Centre in Vijayawada. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover as soon as possible. Discussed the prevailing situation with AP CM @ysjagan Ji and assured all possible support," Modi tweeted.
Sharing a video clip of the accident, former AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu tweeted, "In deep anguish after learning about the fire accident at the Vijayawada Covid Centre this morning. I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery to those injured."
Earlier today, the Andhra Pradesh DGP reviewed the fire accident at the care centre.
