Pasumai Thayagam, a NGO that works towards environmental protection and human rights has reminded Ilayathalapathy Vijay of his interviews in 2007. Pasumai Thayagam’s R Arul has written to the matinee idol reminding him of his 2007 interview and has urged him to announce again that he will not smoke on screen!

In 2007 Vijay expressed to several dailies, “Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss’ rule that we shouldn’t smoke is good. I read about it in the papers. As per his request I will ensure my films don’t promote scenes with people smoking”.

Although fans and critics went gaga over ‘Thupaki’ first look, appreciating the suaveness of the poster, NGOs and social welfare organizations are upset with it as Vijay who is the matinee idol of millions, didn’t promote smoking on screen for several years.

Recently a social activist urged as per the Tobacco Act that these posters have to be removed.
