The launch pooja of the film '96' happened in Chennai today. The film marks the debut of cinematographer Prem Kumar as a director and Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha are pairing up for the first time in this film.

Vijay Sethupathi looked his usual simplistic best wearing a maroon shirt and a saffron veshti while Trisha looked dead drop gorgeous with a white coloured full gown.

Speaking about the film, to press persons after the pooja, Vijay Sethupathi said

"Its a childhood love story. a matured love story; I can say that people will yearn for such a love in their life after watching this film. This story will take you to a different period like a time machine. I felt like that when I listened to the story. Its a story based on emotions alone. We will start shooting soon."

Trisha said, "It has been long since I did an out and out love story like this. The highlight is Vijay and I pair up for first time. While listening to the script many people were moved to tears during the narration of the climax portions.I hope it will be the same for audience."

About working with Trisha for the first time, the Makkal Selvan said "I have also fell in love with VTV's Jessie like all others. I have never ever dreamt of acting with her. Its good to be acting with her I like shooting in suburbs always. I have shot in Kumbakonam for many films and I am happy I will be shooting there again.

The makers said that the shoot will begin in Kumbakonam soon and they plan to complete the shooting in one long schedule.

The film is being produced by S.Nandagopal of Madras Entertprises banner. Govind Menon is making his Kollywood debut as a music director with this film while Shanmugasundaram will be handling the cinematography.
