Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi has teamed up with director SP Jhananthan, known for his socially relevant movies like E, Peranmai, etc, after their first collaboration in the 2015 flick Purampokku Engira Pothuvudamai, for a new movie titled as Laabam.

Laabam is produced by director Aarumuga Kumar's 7Cs Entertainment and Vijay Sethupathi productions, and the team has begun shooting in Ambasamudram today with a formal pooja ceremony. The movie is said to be revolving around agriculture and will deliver a social message.

While Shruti Haasan plays the female lead opposite Vijay Sethupathi for the first time, Jagapathi Babu plays the antagonist, and now it has been revealed that actor Kalaiyarasan will also play a pivotal role in the movie. Vijay Sethupathi plays a farmer in Laabam, and Shruti Haasan plays a singer/dancer who entertains people. D Imman will compose music and Ramji handles cinematography for Laabam.
