Vijay Sethupathi one of the most versatile actors in the country appeared in mostly villain and supporting roles in recent movies such as 'Master', 'Uppenna', 'Kadaisi Vivasayi', 'Vikram' and 'Michael'. His fans even criticized him for it especially when his role is not crucial in the film.
However all that has changed with Vetrimaaran's 'Viduthalai 1' released worldwide last Friday. VJS plays the powerful role of Vaathiyaar a rebel leader who fights for the rights of the oppressed people. Although he appears only for around fifteen minutes in the Soori starrer his power packed acting and dedication to his role to the level of going naked has won millions of hearts. Expectations on 'Viduthalai 2' is now sky high as it will deal entirely with who Vaathiyaar is and the confrontations between him and Kumaresan played by Soori.
Meanwhile the hot buzz in Kollywood is that Vijay Sethupathi is likely to play the lead role in a new romantic movie directed by Alphonse Puthren of 'Neram' and 'Premam' fame. It is well known that the out and out love movie 'Premam' starring Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameshwaran was a huge blockbuster all over India.
Sources say that Vijay Sethupathi's role will be soft like the ones he played in the super hits '96' and 'Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal'. The film will be bankrolled by Romeo Pictures that has to its credit films such as 'Thunivu' and 'Nenjukku Needhi'.
Alphonse Puthren is a good friend of the Makkal Selvan right from their struggling days and has directed him in the short film 'The Angel' that also had Bobby Simha in the cast. The preproduction work for the Alphonse Puthren project is already underway and we have to wait for the official announcement regarding Vijay Sethupathi's involvement or if its a different project.
