Vijay Sethupathi is one of the most celebrated leading men of Tamil cinema who is fondly addressed as the Makkal Selvan by his fans. Recently Kamal Haasan in an online interaction hailed him as the next big actor in Kollywood and appreciated his experimental choice of roles and not falling into an image trap.
A complaint has been lodged against Vijay SEthupathi by the All India Hindu Sabha headquartered in Trichy. According to the petition the actor in an episode of "Namma Ooru Hero" telecast on Sun TV on 17.3.2019 had made a statement that in Hindu temples the priests show people the statues being bathed but when it is being dressed up they close it to the devotees. VJS had mentioned that a small girl asked her granddad why they don't allow her to see gods being dressed up when they are showing them bathing.
Manikandan B the secretary of the outfit has stated that Vijay Sethupathi's speech hurt the sentiments of the Hindus and is a direct attack on religious practices done for ages. He has requested the police commissioner to take severe action that will work as a deterrent for actors and those belonging to other religions trying to gain publicity by speaking against Hindu gods.
