Intense actor and outspoken personality Vijay Sethupathi has been honoured with Periyaar Award for the year 2017 by the Muthamizh Periyaar Mandram.  The award which is in existense for the past two decades is bestowed on people who excel in the creative and entertainment arts who also work for the upliftment of the society with their forward thinking.

The Awards ceremonies will be held on January 15th and 16th during the 'Thai Thirunaal' /Pongal festival at the Periyaar Thidal Chennai.  Film directors R. Parthiban, Gopi Nainar, cinematographer Chezhiyan, poet Chevviyan, artistes Haasif Khan and Aparajithan, poetess Salma, musician Thirubuvanam Athmanathan and Marathon runner M. Subramanian M.L.A. are the other awardees who will be presented mementos by Dravidian Leader K. Veeramani.
