Thalapathy Vijay was last seen as the suave corporate boss turned political crusader in the AR Murugadoss directorial political entertainer Sarkar, costarring Keerthy Suresh, Varlaxmi Sarathkumar, Radharavi, Pazha Karuppiah and Yogi Babu in important roles, and had music by A.R.Rahman.

The movie produced by Sun pictures took a massive opening creating all time best records, and is one of the best openers for Vijay in his career. Not just on silver screens, but on small screens too Sarkar has created records, with its world television premiere recently.

On Republic day, Sun TV had telecast Sarkar as the special movie, and it has achieved huge TRP Impressions of 1,69,06,000, turning the second best Tamil movie after Vijay Antony starrer Pichaikaran which achieved TRP impressions of 1,79,96,000 and the third best among south movies, after Baahubali's 1,70,70,000 TRP impressions.
