Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Theri' released amid huge expectation across the globe and the film has been lapped up by fans and critics as a perfect Tamil New year treat from Vijay and Director Atlee. While the fans of Vijay are celebrating the film like anything the general movie buffs have also liked the film and the social media is abuzz with positive reviews.

In Chennai area the film had a massive release and many multiplexes allocated 100 plus shows for the first day. With these, 'Theri' has become the first Tamil film to collect Rs.1 crore on its first day in Chennai and also achieved the highest first day collection in the city, making it a bastion of the Ilayathalapathy. Earlier, director Shanakar's 'I' with Vikram playing the lead role had collected Rs.84 Lakhs in Chennai on its first day of release and that had been the highest collection so far.

In all, 'Theri' was screened 272 shows across 20 screens in Chennai distribution area on its day of release. The film has collected a whopping Rs.1,04,98,350 as first day collection in Chennai itself. As the film has managed to get the Entertainment tax exemption granted by the TN Government, this collection has to be taken as the net revenue.

Indiaglitz checked with 'Theri' producer Kalaipuli.S.Thanu and he is extremely happy about the film's first day collections and the response from the audience.

With positive word of mouth and weekend days ahead, we can expect Vijay's 'Theri' to break many records in theatrical collections in Chennai as well as other centers across the globe and this may also become the most successful Vijay film in terms of box office collections.

We will keep you posted with more trade updates about this Vijay-Samantha-Amy Jackson starrer. Stay tuned in this space.
