One of India's richest entrepreneurs and a popular loan default accused Vijay Mallya has been arrested by the Scotland Yard in London today. The arrest has been made based on a request from the Indian Government, which has been seeking his extradition. Mallya will be produced in Court in Westminster on Wednesday (April 19).
Mallya fled to Britain in March 2016 after the banks approached the Court against his failure to repay the loan amount of over Rs.9,000 crores received on behalf of his Kingfisher Airlines. He ignored multiple injunctions and failed to appear for the investigation of Enforcement Directorate in connection with a Money laundering case.
The failure to arrest Vijay Mallya has been a hot topic of debate among netizens for the past several months. His escape to Britain has been used as a tool of strong criticism against the ruling BJP Government especially in the wake of poor farmers committing suicide after being ill treated by bank officials for non-repayment of loans.
Now the Indian Government has succeeded in its mission to arrest the Business magnate who has remained a criminal according to the layman.
