Vijay Mallya's extradition was on Monday cleared by the UK Home Secretary. The fugitive baron is wanted for a Rs 9000 Cr default case.
Mallya won't be brought back to the country immediately. He can appeal to a higher court in London. Only after exhausting all appeals will the extradition happen.
However, there are bright chances of the legal process being completed quickly. "The appeal process will not take ages, as higher courts in Britain tend not to interfere with lower court judgments, especially those approved by the home secretary for extradition. Process will be fairy quick," says columnist Minhaz Merchant.
