Vijay Keshav Gokhale appointed as the new Foreign Secretary

Senior diplomat Vijay Keshav Gokhale has been appointed as the country’s new Exernal Affair Secretary.
The tenure of Jayashankar, the incumbent Foreign Secretary, comes to an end on 28th January. Gokhale would take over the reins from Jayashankar on 29th January.
Presently working as an in-charge of the team dealing with China on economic issues, Gokhale has served the Ministry of External Affairs in various capacities right from 1981 and is considered an affable and genial person.
The Cabinet Committee on Appointments has issued an announcement appointing Gokhale as the new Foreign Secretary. Gokhale would hold this post for the next two years, it is further reported.
