One of the most popular songs of the late 90s was Megamaai Vandhu Pogiren from the Thalapathy Vijay starrer Thullatha Manamum Thullum directed by Ezhil, and the song is still one of the favorites of Vijay fans. The song was penned by lyricist Muthu Vijayan, who has passed away yesterday.

Muthu Vijayan had been suffering from jaundice, and had been receiving treatment for the past few months but passed away yesterday after treatment could not help him recover. Muthu Vijayan has written more than 500 songs, and as an unfortunate fact, only four of his friends came for his funeral.

Muthu Vijayan has written many hit songs including Kannukkulle Unnai Vaithen Kannamma from Pennin Manathai Thottu, and songs in Kalvanin Kathali, Thennavan, Nenjinile and many more movies and had assisted director Bharathiraja in few movies as well.
