Vijay Discusses Mahendran’s Disagreement on Sachin Film Aspect

The movie ‘Sachien’, directed by John Mahendran, is being re-released after 20 years, much to the excitement of fans. Talking about the film, the director compared it to his father Mahendran’s film ‘Johnny’, which was initially unexpected but later became a classic romantic movie.

John Mahendran shared his experience of narrating ‘Sachien’ to Vijay, highlighting how Vijay’s unexpected reactions and comic timing added charm to the film. He revealed that Vijay, who had been doing back-to-back action films like ‘Ghilli’ and ‘Thirupachi’, wanted to experiment with a love story.

The director narrated how Vijay enthusiastically picked up comedy elements, sometimes even matching Vadivelu’s humor. Genelia, despite being a North Indian actress, dedicated herself to learning Tamil for the role. John also recalled the challenges of shooting in Ooty, where sudden weather changes required quick costume adjustments.

He acknowledged that while ‘Sachien’ received critical acclaim, its box office performance was not as expected. However, he compared it to ‘Johnny’, which initially surprised audiences but later became an iconic love film in Tamil cinema.
