The tragic death of 20-year-old college student Sathya Priya, who was pushed onto a moving train at Chennai’s St Thomas Mount station by her stalker, has shook the entire nation.
Even as the police arrested the accused, identified as 23-year-old Sathish Kumar, people across the state have been demanding stringent punishment against the man for his heinous act. Among the celebrities who came forward to request severe action against Sathish was actor/music director Vijay Antony. “On behalf of Sathya, I am begging the judge to punish Sathish, who killed her and caused the suicide of Sathya’s father, and to please immediately investigate the incident and punish him by throwing him in front of a train rather than waiting another 10 years to hang him to death,” he wrote on Twitter.
According to the police, Sathish had been harassing BCom student Sathya for a year before he pushed her in front a train at the St Thomas Mount railway station in Chennai following a heated argument with her. A case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Sathish on Thursday. The deceased girl’s father Manickam apparently died of a heart attack the same day upon hearing the news of his daughter’s death.
