Mass Ka Das Vishwak Sen is getting ready to entertain movie lovers with his upcoming film Gaami. The film directed by Vidyadhar Kagita is releasing on 8 March 2024. Ahead of the film release, Vidyadhar Kagita shared the secrets of Gaami.
How did the 'Gaami' project start, and how did Vishwak get involved?
Vidyadhar: An exciting incident sparked the initial idea for 'Gaami'. I had a passion for the Himalayan mountains, snow, and adventure stories like those of Vithalacharya. These interests and inspirations coalesced into the concept for 'Gaami'. We started with a budget that allowed us to proceed. We created a pitch video for crowdfunding and began the film with the funds raised. If additional funds were required, the producer sourced them externally. After seeing a glimpse of the film, UV Creations came on board. When casting, Vishwak was our choice. At that time, none of his films had been released. We conducted regular auditions, and Vishwak chose this project with an open mind. We truly appreciate his boldness and vision.
'Gaami' took five years to make. What did you learn during this journey?
Vidyadhar: We were dedicated to our vision and committed to bringing it to life, much like the ten-year journey of 'Avatar'. Such endeavors require time and dedication. We felt that we were exploring new territory, so the concept of time didn't weigh heavily on us. We aimed to deliver a fresh experience to the audience through innovative visuals, music, and technical elements.
The trailer shows many characters. Is this a hyperlink story?
Vidyadhar: I won't reveal any links at this point; they'll be apparent when you watch the movie. However, all these characters are intriguing, as portrayed in the trailer. We selected Samad, Harika, and Chandni to captivate the audience.
What elements make a travel-based story like 'Gaami' interesting to the audience?
Vidyadhar: 'Gaami' promises to be engaging, with a gripping screenplay that keeps the audience curious about what happens next. The drama is intense, drawing viewers into the narrative.
Could you elaborate on the title 'Gaami'?
Vidyadhar: 'Gaami' means seeker, one who reaches the destination. The main character in our film has a specific destination, and the journey to reach it is quite intriguing.
Is Shankar's character inspired by real events?
Vidyadhar: Shankar's character is based on some real-life events but is ultimately a fictional character.
Did you find 'Gaami' challenging?
Vidyadhar: The main challenge was to convey the intended emotions effectively through performances. Editing was also a significant challenge due to the complexity of the film. We worked tirelessly to edit the movie in a way that immerses the entire audience.
How did UV Creations support the project?
Vidyadhar: UV Creations provided financial freedom and increased resources. They also allowed us the time we needed for post-production. They believed in our vision of doing something new and gave us the opportunity to carry out post-production on a larger scale.
Coming from a short film background, do you notice any differences when working on a feature film?
Vidyadhar: Personally, I approach both short films and feature films with the same level of dedication and commitment.
Could you tell us about Shankar Mahadevan's song in the film?
Vidyadhar: It is an honor to have Shankar Mahadevan lend his voice to a song in our film.
The hero and heroine mentioned doing many risky scenes. Could you elaborate on that?
Vidyadhar: I (Vidyadhar Kagita) was with them throughout. Every risky scene was carefully choreographed and supervised by me or my assistant directors. We always prioritize safety while pushing the boundaries of filmmaking.
