'The Dirty Picture' has managed to claim the kind of collections that are not just unbelievable but also unprecedented. The film was meant to do well but its collections pretty much confirm loud and clear that the business has been extra ordinary here. Last week I had stated that 50 crores haul in its first week was possible, though it could well be a touch and go affair. However the audience's nod of approval right through the weekdays ensured that the film did cross 50 crores mark eventually. While the film is now a clean superhit, its run till the release of 'Don 2' will decide if it manages a blockbuster status for itself.

With a superb run of the film, while Vidya Balan is in the Top-5 leading lady zone, Emraan Hashmi too has further consolidated his place amongst the Top-10 male leads. As for Ekta Kapoor, she has now firmly established her production house and has already green-lighted 4-5 major films to go into production next year. On the other hand Milan Luthria can now command/demand actors and budget for his 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai' sequel.

Moreover the industry too is now buoyed with the super-success of 'The Dirty Picture'. After all, last few months had been a little rough on Bollywood. Though 'Ra.One' was a hit, 'Rockstar' enjoyed a semi-hit status and 'Desi Boyz' too has proved to be a coverage affair, need of the situation was to get another major hit after 'Singham' and 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara'. That desire has now been fulfilled by 'The Dirty Picture' which is now enjoying a clean run at single screen theatres and has also managed to hold ground at multiplexes as well.

The other release of the week, 'I Am Singh', went totally unnoticed and could barely finish it's one week run in theatres. An out and out non-performer, the film is a debacle with collections struggling to touch even the 50 lacs mark.
