Indian audiences have been eagerly waiting for the release of Vidya Balan's upcoming movie Shakuntala Devi, helmed by Anu Menon. With the lockdown, there was uncertainty over the release of the flick. On Friday, Amazon Prime Video has officially announced that the movie will have a direct OTT premiere, skipping theatrical release. 'Shakuntala Devi' will be available in 200 countries and territories.
“Get set for a perfect class this summer as Vidya Balan dons the hat of math whiz Shakuntala Devi to teach the world the universal language of mathematics,” a press release stated. The streaming date has not yet been announced. The Hindi-language biopic is produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Abundantia Entertainment.
Well, it may be remembered that a few weeks ago, Jyothika's Tamil movie 'Ponmagal Vandhal' was announced to be released directly on OTT platforms that sparked controversy in the industry. However, the movie is prepping up for an OTT release on May 29.
Starring Jyothika, Parthiban, Bhagyaraj, Prathap Pothen, and Pandiarajan, 'Ponmagal Vandhal' is a legal drama. The movie is written and directed by JJ Fredrick, and produced by Suriya and Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian.
It was only a day ago, Shoojit Sircar’s 'Gulabo Sitabo', starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan, was announced to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video on June 12. The other movies that are lined up for a release on Amazon Prime Video are Keerthy Suresh-starrer Penguin, (Tamil and Telugu), Jayasurya's 'Sufiyum Sujatayum', Law (Kannada) and French Biryani (Kannada).
