There are some actors who do not define a role, they completely redefine it. Vidya Balan has been doing it with amazing consistency. She has stamped her authority and has been immortalized forever in the characters she has portrayed.
Whether it was her poignant role in Kahaani or the desperate hunger for success as Silk Smitha in Dirty Picture, Vidya has always stood for what she believes in trespassing society norms. Making the most of her influential personality, Vidya not only as an actor but also as a person has worked towards promoting equality.
2015 being a significant year for her as she completes a decade in the industry, Vidya will continue to engage herself in encouraging Indian cinema on a global platform. For the fourth year in a row Vidya will be seen as the face of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne that commenced in the year 2012.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne that celebrates Indian cinema internationally will kick start from 14th to 27th August 2015 in Melbourne.
This year the festival theme is around equality and vidya herself has suggested this theme. The festival will provide an opportunity to aspiring filmmakers on the global stage to showcase their craft.
Speaking on this Vidya said, "Equality is something that I feel very passionately about .. and in today's times nothing seems more imperative than a free and equal world. I believe that Art and films can help condition and change mindsets and attitudes and I am over joyed to see such wonderful films and events in our program that will celebrate and embrace the diversity that defines us all".
