'Viduthalai 1' directed by Vetrimaaran and starring Soori and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles was released last March and received high critical praise. The film was also a huge success at the box office which prompted the team to shoot more scenes for the second part.

Soori has confirmed that the filming has resumed for 'Viduthalai 2' by posting a BTS video in which he is seen transforming from his current styled bearded look to that of a cop. He has captioned the video "Kumaresan Ready...Shooting in progress". The team is camped again at the forests of Sirumalai near Dindigul and a thirty day schedule has been planned.

'Viduthalai' is produced by RS Infotainment with music by Ilayaraja and cinematography by Velraj. The stars Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Gautham Menon, Bhavanisree, Prakashraj, Chetan, Rajeev Menon and Suriya Vijay Sethupathi among others. Vetrimaaran this time will focus on the rise and fall of Vaathiyaar the naxalite character played by Vijay Sethupathi who appeared less than ten minutes in the first part.
