'Care Of Kancharapalem' was rejected by the National Awards committee on the grounds that producer Praveena Paruchuri is not an Indian citizen. The news is that it is now a thing of the past. Thanks to an appeal by KTR (Minister from Telangana) and prompt action initiated by Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, the critically-acclaimed film is now eligible.
Praveena had made an appeal to KTR, Arun Jaitley, Narendra Modi and Rathore via Twitter. Since he responds to the concerns of the Telugu film industry often, KTR took up the issue immediately. He tagged Rathore, who asked his office to call up Praveena and discuss what can be done.
The official learned that the India-based Suresh Productions is associated with 'COK'. Since the banner can be counted as the film's co-producers, it has been considered for National Awards. Praveena has expressed her joy over the development. Thanking Rathore and KTR, she said, "I hope we will continue to have discussions about permanently amending this rule."
