Victoria No. 203
OCEANS 11, 12 and 13 may have made one believe that heist thrillers are back in vogue. But the fact is that they were never out of circulation. Whether it was 50s, 60, 70, 80, 90s or the current century, audience has always been enthralled by thrillers that have involved a heist, especially involving diamonds. Hence it hardly comes as a surprise when 70s comic thriller VICTORIA NO. 203 is revived and presented in it's modern avtar.
There is an exhibition of some of the rarest and exquisite diamonds in the world. Worth more than 100 crores, these diamonds are now the object of desire for Bobby Bombata [Javed Jaffrey], a multi millionaire industrialist, his moll Devyani [Preeti Jhangiani], a burglar Tora [Tora Khasgir], her brother Karan [Rajesh Khera], a criminal Ranjit [Kamal Sadanah], a diamond expert Jimmy [Jimmy Sheirgill] and last but definitely not the least, two small-time-but-quite-old crooks Raja [Anupam Kher] and Rana [Om Puri].
The girl who is driving their object of desire in her horse carriage Victoria No. 203 around the town? Sara [Sonia Vinod Mehra].
So how did it all start?
Bobby Bombata wanted these diamonds as a part of his collection at all costs and for this he hires the services of Tora to do the impossible. She does the impossible but in the process gets killed by Ranjit. She still doesn't let go of the diamonds and hides them in, where else, but Victoria No. 203.
A helping hand comes in the form of Raman, driver of the carriage, but police arrest him on charges of attempted murder and Victoria is close to being abandoned.
Well, that doesn't quite happen as Raman's daughter Sara, otherwise a call center trainee, takes it on her to get her father freed and for that starts driving Victoria through the city of Mumbai.
One of her many passengers of the day turns out to be Jimmy who doesn't take time in falling in love with her. Nonetheless, it turns out later that he too had an agenda of his own.
But were these the only players in the game? No! Because the most interesting angles to the story were still to be revealed - Raja and Rana. While Raja loved 'shabaab' and 'sharaab', Rana was more sober and focused on work.
Their work? Small time thefts, conning people and being in and out of jail!
Standing up for each other in the toughest of situations, they now were in lookout of their biggest prize catch ever - Diamonds that were worth 100 crores!
Who will be the first to catch hold of the diamonds? And who will own them eventually? And last but not the least, were the diamonds really in Victoria?
Directed by Anath Mahadevan, this comic caper is produced by Kamal Sadanah and has been readied in quick time. With music by Viju Shah, the film is getting readied for an August 31st release.
