Brilliant actor Vicky Kaushal is currently busy promoting his upcoming film 'Sardar Udham'. He plays the titular role in this biopic about the revolutionary who travelled to London and assassinated General O'Dwyer as a revenge for Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The project is directed by ace filmmaker Shoojit Sircar. Although he nails the role in trailer, Vicky wasn't actually the first choice for the part of Shaheed Udham Singh.
Initially, Shoojit offered the titular role to late actor Irrfan Khan. The duo previously collaborated on the film 'Piku' which was critical and commercial success. Unfortunately, Irrfan declined the part due to health reasons and he was replaced by Vicky Kaushal. Talking about this, Vicky said, "Nobody can fill his shoes. For me, Irrfan Saab is one of the finest actors across the world. It has been an honour that I have been considered for the same film."
Talking about the film, Vicky said, "It is not a biopic of a man. It is a biopic of his ideologies and of a freedom struggle. So it is a much bigger and deeper biopic. There are certain archival photographs which we have used as reference in terms of the looks and styling but beyond that, the film primarily was about what his state of mind was at that time."
