Anyone who has visited the VGP Golden Beach in the ECR on the outskirts of Chennai will immediately recall the figure of Dass aka The Statue Man who has been standing at the gate for decades wearing a turban and holding a staff. His job is to remain unmoved whatever the visitors do and has successfully stayed immovable all these years as well.
Recently there were reports that Dass passed away due to the COVID 19 and tributes started pouring in for him on social media platforms. The VGP management has released an official video captioned "Some fake news has been going viral on WhatsApp and other social media about Dass our Statue Man. They have stated that he has passed away due to COVID-19, which couldn't be farther from the truth. In this video, he is happy to inform everyone that he is alive and gearing up to meet all of you when we re-open. Kindly share this news with your friends as we need to stop the spread of this"
In the video the sixty year old Dass has appeared in his usual costume and has assured his fans that he is very much alive and loves his job and will resume work as soon as the beach reopens. Well that is a huge sigh of relief and also high time to take action against such fake media reports that hurt the sentiments of those concerned and their families and friends as well.
