Vetta Review

Touted to the first of its kind of psychological thrillers in Mollywood, 'Vettah' had a lot of expectations riding on it. The movie sure is a new take on the thriller genre. What works in favour of the movie are the crisp performances of the lead actors and an even crispier editing which reduces the overall length of the movie to around 2 hours. The visual narrative is gripping and the director's class is evident.

'Vettah' cannot be termed a classy movie or a realistic one. There are too many of those contrived moments that confines it within the parameters of a traditional thriller. There is this plot struggling to make the ends meet and sub plots that feel they are there for the sake of it. It is not that the plot or sub plots are not engaging, like the story of Vijayaraghavan or the familial elements thrown in. But the overall tone does not gel well.

The plot in a nutshell is a missing case of an actress played by Sanusha and Sreebala IPS (Manju Warrier) and her subordinate Xylex (Indrajith) probing the case. The culprit, Melvin is soon caught. However there are darker secrets lurking which Sreebala has to unravel. There are mind games and deceptions waiting to be unearthed. Certain issues like the school incident thickens the plot.

The plot does have its loophholes, which can be overlooked at will, but the building up of the events are too evident which spoils the fun of a free flowing narrative. Scriptwriter Arun has tried out something different, but should have kept it realistic. The movie's music is interesting and a typical Shaan Rahman feel is felt time and again.

Kunchako Boban's performance and charactertization stands out and his rugged look and rustic performance overshadows the other actors. This is not a Manju Warrier movie. Her role in 'Vettah' though fiery, occupies the fringes in terms of a professional no - nonsense police officer. Indrajith as the hot headed youngster though repetitive is impressive.

'Vettah' is an engaging watch in the thriller mode and can be enjoyed for its novelty in treatment and narration.
