Yes. Vetrimaran has done it again. His 'Aadukalam' won multiple national awards for the films released in the year 2011. 'Visaranai' is the next film he directed after a long gap and it was sent for awards in 2015. Now 'Visaranai' has won the National Award for Best Regional Film (Tamil) in the 63rd National Awards.
'Visaranai' has also won the award for Best Editing that will go to the late Editor Kishore T.E. and the Best Supporting actor award has been given to Samuthirakani's performance as Inspector Muthuvel in the film.
Another phenomenal pride for Tamil cinema has come from its senior and most revered technician Isaignani Ilaiyaraja. The Maestro has won the Best National Award for Best Background score for the film 'Tharai Thappattai' which was his landmark 1000th film.
Ilaiyaraja had earlier won the award under the same category for his re-recording for the film 'Pazhasi Raja'. That was also the first award given under the Award for Best Background score category which was launched that year.
