We all know that National Award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran made 'Viduthalai' with Soori and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles based on writer Jeyamohan's 'Thunaivan' short story. The movie has music by Ilaiyaraaja, cinematography by Velraj, editing by R Ramar and art direction by Jacki with stunts by Peteran Hein & Stun Siva.

ZEE5, India's largest home-grown video streaming and multilingual storytelling platform, today officially announced the worldwide digital release of the socio-political drama, 'Viduthalai - Part 1'. The OTT platform will stream the extended director's cut of the movie from today (April 28). While the theatrical version was around 2 hours and 20 minutes long, the extended version on ZEE5 will be 2 hours and 32 minutes long.

Viduthalai Part 1 stars Soori, Vijay Sethupathi, Bhavani Sre, Chetan, Rajiv Menon, Gautham Menon and others. Vetrimaaran is currently working on the sequel which is slated to release early next year. It will additionally star Prakash Raj and Kishore. The makers releasing the extended director's cut on ZEE5 have garnered a huge positive response from the audience.

Kumaresan (Soori) has a principled idealistic view of the world. And like any new recruit to the police, he starts his career doing menial jobs. The plot also explores how Kumaresan approaches evil and good under justice and how his emotional bond with a local tribal girl, Tamilarasi (Bhavani Sri), helps Perumal (Vijay Sethupathi) escape imprisonment.

Viduthalai Part 1 openly questions the ethics behind police brutality without hiding anything in a heart-wrenching way. The story also discusses the political climate of Tamil Nadu in the 1990s, drawing attention to police brutality. The movie focuses on the circumstances under which Kumaresan, a dedicated and humble civil servant, is forced to question the system and lose his innocence, becoming a silent witness who - like many of us - turns a blind eye to all the police atrocities in the name of investigation. Soori effectively conveys the innocence and helplessness of her character.
