In a recent directors roundtable, Vetrimaaran revealed about the significant product challenges the team faced during "Viduthalai Part 1" . His ambitious 35-day schedule stretched into 120 days because of complications much foreseen, like overruns on budget and issues with location.
With an attempt at a two-part release, there was uncertainty behind the sequel and continued reshoots plague being able to move forward. The film's budget skyrocketed up to Rs 65 crore from the initial Rs 4.5 crore, leaving Vetrimaaran in a quagmire of uncertainty, though he is thankful for the unwavering support of his team.
Painfully recalling the shooting difficulties—from tents that had been tattered by the fury of the storm to unanticipated hitches and a warrior's accidental death during rehearsal for the key single-shot opening scene of the film, planned for months in detail.
However, despite this adversity, the revelation by Vetrimaaran of the extended production process, soaring budget, and ongoing reshoots did take a few of the fellow directors by surprise.
Though the release of the first part had set tongues wagging on the status of the second part, Vetrimaaran's open account has painfully made rounds over exhaustive efforts and creative trials taken in the making of 'Viduthalai Part 1'.
While this confession was taken by his colleagues with humour and disbelief, it was also taken as an example of an honest confession about feeling perplexed amidst the tumultuous journey of the film, which ran into many hurdles.
