Vetrimaaran one of the most influential filmmakers in the country is shooting for the last schedule of his current project 'Viduthalai'. The film produced by Elred Kumar with music by Ilayaraja started as a low budget quickie starring Soori in the lead role but has now devoloped into the costliest in Vetrimaaran's career.
The film initially had Bharathiraja in the powerful character of Vaathiyaar but he opted out due to him not able to cope with the tough conditions shooting in the forest areas. Vijay Sethupathi was later brought on board to replace the veteran actor-director.
It is already announced officially that 'Viduthalai' will release in two parts with the first one slated for the first quarter of 2023. Now it has been reported that Vetrimaaran has designed the screenplay in such a manner that the first part will give full importance to Soori. Accordingly the film will focus on the hunt for the wanted man Vaathiyaar in the jungles and how Soori's low ranking constable character nabs him.
'Viduthalai 2' will reveal who Vaathiyaar is and how he became a criminal on the run. Hence the sequel is expected to be dominated by Vijay Sethupathi. It is said that Vetrimaaran has planned the films in this way so as to satisfy all sections of the audience as well as fans of Vijay Sethupathi.
'Viduthalai' based on Jeyamohan's short story 'Thunaivan' has cinematography by Velraj. The principal cast comprises of Soori, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Chetan, Prakash Raj, Rajiv Menon and Vijay Sethupathi.
Vetrimaaran is expected to begin shooting for his magnum opus 'Vaadivasal' starring Suriya after the release of 'Viduthalai'. The film is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu with G.V. Prakash Kumar scoring the music.
