Dhanush is featuring in Vetrimaaran's direction in 'Vada Chennai' for the third time after 'Polladhavan' and 'Aadukalam'.  The film that has Santhosh Narayanan's music score and Velraj's cinematography has a star studded cast that includes Ameer, Andrea, Aishwarya Rajesh,  Samuthirakani, Daniel Balaji, Kishore and  Daniel Annie Pope.

It has been reported widely for a long time that 'Vada Chennai' is a trilogy and a gangster flick.  Vetrimaaran has clarified that the story though involving gangsters  is in actuality about the occurences over a period of thirty five years of a village and how its people are affected.  There would be a strong social message in the film  and the core subject has never been dealt before.  The National Award winning director also stated that though he has planned the film as a trilogy the second and third parts would happen only based on the reception of the first which would hit the screens in the middle of 2018.
