There are some more unsung heroes of the past. Among them is stage and cinema actor BS Narayana Rao. He introduced many of the plays of TP Kailasam and Parvathavani to stage. The centenary of this actor and director was held recently.
Narayana Rao worked with Pitamah of plays TP Kailasam in Home Rule, Karna, Ammavra Ganda etc. He was hero, villain, and heroine besides donning character roles. His urge started when he was in National High School. BS Narayana Rao elder brother BS Venkata Ram helped him in evolving ‘Still photos’ team.
BS Narayan Rao was close to literary field and gems like BS Srikantaiah supported his active movement. Bahaddur Ganda of Parvathavani got huge response for BSN as director. It was 175 shows in Sri Theatre in Kempe Gowda road. He started ‘Ravi Kalavidaru’ and continued his work for decades in that team.
The plays of Masthi Venkatesha Iyengar, Adya Sri Rangacharya, Samsa were brought on stage. Shakespeare English plays were brought in Kannada language.
BS Narayana Rao spread his wings in cinema too. Gejje Pooje, Bayalu Daari, Bidugade, Siri Purandara, Kuduremukha, Anirikshita are some of his noted films. He was Karnataka Nataka Academy registrar.
