Director-Cinematographer N.K.Vishwanath passes away

Veteran director and cinematographer N.K.Vishwanath has passed away last night in Chennai due to prolonged illness and sudden heart attack.

Vishwanath started his film career as a cinematographer. He has handled the lens for many films of Kamal Haasan in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The list includes 'Sattam En Kayyil', 'Kalyanaraman', 'Kadal Meengal', 'Meendum Kokila', 'Sankarlal'. He continued to be a cinematographer till 2005 and worked in many films directed by Rama Narayanan.

Vishwanath's maiden directorial was 'Periya Veettu Panakkaran' starring Karthik and Kanaka. He has directed many hit films that include 'Inaindha Kaigal', 'Nadodi Pattukkaran', 'Periya Marudhu' starring Vijayakanth and 'Varrar Sandiyar'. His film 'Purushan Pondatti' starring Pandiarajan and Ranjitha won the Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Film for the year 1996. His last film as a director was the Namitha starrer 'Jagan Mohini' that released in 2009.
