Veteran actor Delhi Ganesh passes away at the age of 80

The Tamil film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Delhi Ganesh, who passed away on Saturday night at his residence in Ramapuram. A beloved figure with a career spanning nearly five decades, Delhi Ganesh was celebrated for his roles as a comedian, villain, and dubbing artist. He leaves behind a legacy of over 400 films across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema.

Born in Thoothukudi, Delhi Ganesh began his journey in theatre before moving to film in 1976, having previously served in the Indian Air Force. He made his cinematic debut under the direction of K. Balachander in Pattina Pravesam and quickly became known for his impeccable comic timing and memorable character roles. His villainous portrayal in Apoorva Sagodharargal stands as one of his most iconic performances.

Delhi Ganesh worked with three generations of actors, adapting to new trends from drama to cinema to OTT while remaining a familiar and cherished presence on screen. He recently appeared in Indian 2, directed by Shankar, marking yet another milestone in his illustrious career.
